Since Specialized Bicycle Components released the first Stumpjumper mountain bike in the early 1980s, the sport and technology has changed dramatically. Today’s Stumpjumper FSR is one of many Specialized full suspension mountain bikes available with an active four-point suspension system featuring advanced AFR BRAIN Fade technology from Fox Racing Shox. The first generation of mountain bikes used traditional rigid frame technology that led eventually to hardtail systems with front suspension. The newest generation of Specialized full suspension mountain bikes uses BRAIN Fade technology to automatically sense impacts associated with natural terrain changes whilst providing a firm surface on hard corners and smooth terrain for maximum power transfer and efficiency on technically challenging terrain.
Specialized full suspension mountain bikes are among the lightest in their class delivering high-performance results that helps riders achieve championship-winning results. The advanced rear suspension uses four strategic pivot points to distribute impact across the frame for a smoother more efficient ride. The unique system can be manually adjusted to accommodate each rider’s weight and riding style for maximum performance on the trail. Specialized mountain bikes and rugged cross country models are loaded with hardware from the best manufacturers. SRAM derailleurs, hydraulic brakes from Avid, Shimano pedal components and advanced forks manufactured by Fox are designed to deliver the best performance.
High-quality components and advanced system technology produces a noticeable ride improvement. Like all full suspension bikes, you can expect to pay a higher premium compared to rigid and hardtail models. Fortunately, Specialized offers a large selection of mountain bikes for cross country, downhill and competitive racing applications with different pricing options. The ever popular Stumpjumper is available with standard competition features for around £1.200 to £1.500 with the top-of-the line Stumpjumper S-Works carbon fibre model selling for roughly £4.000. Frame options available with the Stumpjumper range from £1.050 to £2.050 when purchased a la carte. Entry level mountain bikes with full suspension start at £900 with top of the line models selling for £6,500 or more.
The Enduro, lightweight Epic, Pitch Competition and Pitch Pro models are among the most popular full suspension mountain bikes alongside the multi-functional Stumpjumper. Each Specialized mountain bike model offers specially tuned suspension and frame geometry to suit each application. The Era and a handful of Specialized full suspension mountain bikes are designed for female riders whilst competition models and racing bikes deliver a firmer suspension system for maximum efficiency.
