The frame of a bicycle is everything when it comes to cycling. Very simply, without a frame there is no bike. Full suspension mountain bike frames come in a wide variety of models from a multitude of bike manufacturers. Full suspension gives the rider both full front and rear suspension, and has become an increasingly popular choice in bike frames among all kinds of cycling enthusiasts.
There are ever increasing numbers of mountain bikes that now feature full suspension frames. These full suspension mountain bike frames also go by the name of dual suspension frames. Both the rear and front tires are fitted to some form of shock absorber where the tire is attached to the bicycle, which supplies a more stable ride. This is due to both the rear and front wheels being able to travel up and down and being able to absorb the force of any obstacles smacking the wheels.
Full suspension mountain bike frames are generally more expensive than other frames, but this is because of the upgraded performance provided by this type of frame. This type of frame will make the mountain bike much faster on technical and rough sections, as well as providing more downhill speed. Normally, when a bike’s tire strikes an object, the wheel will come flying off the ground which causes the bike to lose speed. With a full suspension mountain bike frame the upward force caused by the obstacle is absorbed and transmitted to the shock absorbers, which keeps the bicycle moving smoothly and able to continue on without a loss of speed.
Full suspension mountain bike frames improve not only the efficiency of a mountain bike, but also provide an increase in safety. While many mountain bikes these days come with full suspension, it was not always this way. When they were first produced, mountain bikes were made with a rigid frame as well as a rigid fork. Front suspension forks started to make their way on to mountain bikes in the early 1990′s, with the full suspension frame being produced a short time later.
With the improved handling when encountering obstacles and the added comfort provided by full suspension mountain bike frames, it’s easy to see why these frames have become a popular choice for riders as well as the manufacturers that produce these bikes and frames. With the ever increasing popularity of mountain bike riding and mountain bike racing, full suspension mountain bike frames have now become the norm rather than the exception.
